This tutorial offers a brief overview of the elements of a hearing conservation program conducted according to the requirements of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration). It is suitable for use in a training course in occupational health, safety or nursing and also possibly in a graduate or undergraduate course in environmental science, occupational health, industrial or environmental engineering, or audiology. The presentations are highly compressed and therefore suitable for use with an Internet-based course management system such as Blackboard or WebCT and may be used with either a high-speed or dial-up connection. It includes the following lectures: Noise Exposure Monitoring (17 min.); Hearing Protection (24 min.); Audiometric Testing (23 min.); Worker Training and Program Audits (15 min.). There are also printable slides for all four lectures and a 15-question, multiple choice quiz. The learning goal is to familiarize students with the key elements and standard procedures of occupational hearing conservation as required by government regulations and by good occupational health practice.
