The species and habitats that we seek to conserve are inextricably linked to landscapes and landform.
Over the centuries the British countryside has undergone considerable changes and developed in an evolutionary fashion. Nowadays there are many, often conflicting, demands made on the countryside and it is of major concern how the assets of the countryside are assessed and recorded and how change is manipulated and managed.
The module also explores landscape fragmentation and examines how landscape components can be vulnerable or robust.
The module will be also be concerned with the relationship of human activity and landscape. It will deal with societal drivers of change and the effects of human activity on landscape pattern.
An important part of this relationship is understanding the impact of human activity on landscapes and how these effects can be assessed using appropriate landscape assessment methodologies.
